Haven’t had the opportunity to visit your favorite hiking trail lately? Cypress essential oil can remind you of your go-to outdoor retreat without even taking a step outside! This foresty oil takes its botanical name, Cupressus sempervirens, from the Greek sempervivum, or “live forever.” Cypress essential oil has a clean, evergreen aroma that will make you feel like you’ve been out under a rustling canopy of trees, with the trail under your feet and the breeze in your face.
How to use Cypress essential oil
Though there are endless ways to incorporate Cypress essential oil into your daily life, we’ve picked six of our favorite ways to use this evergreen oil.
1. DIY hair treatment

What you’ll need:
- 10 drops Cypress
- 10 drops Rosemary
- 3 tablespoons alcohol-free witch hazel
- 1 teaspoon liquid carrier oil
- Distilled water
- 4-ounce spray bottle
How to use:
1. Mix essential oils, witch hazel, and carrier oil into a spray bottle.
2. Fill the rest of the bottle with distilled water, leaving a little space so the mixture won’t overflow when you add the sprayer.
3. Shake well to incorporate the ingredients before each use.
4. Spray the treatment onto your scalp with wet or dry hair.
5. Massage and comb through from root to ends.

2. Skin care enhancer
Add a few drops of Cypress essential oil to your facial essence, serum, or moisturizer for a healthy-looking, radiant glow. Use undiluted as a topical treatment on areas of troubled skin.
3. Massage oil
Combine 2−4 drops of Cypress with a carrier oil and massage it onto sore muscles after a long, busy day for a revitalizing sensation. Breathe in the fresh, woodsy aroma for a moment of calm.
4. Revitalizing bath
Soak in a rejuvenating Cypress-infused bath for a couple minutes of relaxation after a long day. In a bowl, mix ½ cup of Epson salt with 3−4 drops of Cypress oil. While your tub is filling with warm—or piping hot—water, sprinkle the bath salts into the tub directly under the faucet. As you kick back and relax in the spa-like bath, breathe in the grounding and stimulating aromas.
5. Diffuse
Cypress essential oil is a dreamy diffuser companion. Diffuse it whenever you want to welcome feelings of confidence, relaxation, and fond memories of the outdoors.
