Spring clean your house from top to bottom using essential oils

From hosting house guests to tackling top-to-bottom cleaning, start fresh this season by adding essential oils to your housework routines. When you’re finished, instead of having a house reeking of chemicals, you can inhale the fresh scents of mother nature as you waltz from room to room. Spruce up one area or tidy your entire house with these helpful hints.

Start in the kitchen

Fridge freshener

Chase away lingering leftover smells with this quick mix. Sprinkle a few drops of Lime essential oil into a box of baking soda to keep your fridge smelling fresh between cleanings.

Garbage disposal reset

Stone surface cleaner

From tiled floors to granite counter tops, scrub out stains and spills from stone with this simple DIY cleaner. Start with a reusable glass spray bottle that can hold about 28 ounces of liquid. Add two tablespoons of mild dish soap and a few drops of Lavender essential oil; fill the rest with water, and voila! You have a fabulous floral cleanser for your stone surfaces.

Next comes the bathroom

Glass/window spray

Are dirty mirrors messing with your bathroom selfie game? Whip out your reusable glass spray bottles and stir up this minty concoction for sparkling mirrors and windows:

•  3 cups distilled water
• 1/4 cup rubbing alcohol
• 1/4 cup white vinegar
• 20 drops Peppermint essential oil

Combine all ingredients in spray bottle and shake to combine. Spray on mirrors, windows, or stainless steel. Wipe with a paper towel or microfiber rag for streak-free shine.

Mother Nature’s potpourri

Put a few drops of your favorite freshening essential oil or blend on the inside of your toilet paper or paper towel roll to release a satisfying scent every time you use it. Some of our favorites are Citrus Fresh^TM and Pine.

Shower- and toilet-cleaning fizzies

Deep-clean scrub

For those areas of your home that need some extra TLC, we’ve got you covered with this crisp-smelling, deep-cleaning bathroom scrub.

• 1/2 cup baking soda
• 1/3 cup natural liquid dish soap
• 1/4 cup hydrogen peroxide
• 3/4 cup distilled water
• 30 drops Eucalyptus Radiata essential oil

Mix together in a squeeze bottle. Squirt in toilet, shower, or other dirty crevices. Scrub with brush. Let stand for 20 minutes. Rinse.

Last, the bedrooms

Air vent aromas

Stash subtle air fresheners throughout your home to add herbaceous aromas to each space. All you need are cotton balls and your favorite essential oils! Sprinkle a few drops onto each cotton ball, then add these to your air vents for a pleasant-smelling home.
